The water supply tower of Subačius railway station was built in the in the middle of the 20th century, along with the end of the era of steam locomotives. The main purpose of the tower was to supply steam locomotives with fresh, soft water from Viešinta stream. The tower is equipped with two tanks: a 100,000-liter technical tank for filling steam locomotives, and a 60,000-liter tank for the domestic needs of railwaymen.

Currently, the tower no longer fulfills its direct purpose.

In 2021, Valdas Šateika's project "The symbol of the establishment of Subačius town" of the community initiatives of Kupiškis district municipality was implemented using the funds of Kupiškis district municipality – to preserve the authentically and historically important railway water as a symbol of the emergence of Subačius town and to enable cultural and social activities.
